James Francis Smith Sr. age 84, of Deptford, formerly of Westville, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017. Born in Gloucester City, he retired from American Dredging Co. Local 25, Marine Division where he worked as an Operating Engineer. James was involved with the Democratic Club, Garden State String Band, and Local 25 Union, Marine Division.

Husband of the late Frances Smith (nee Harper), he is survived by his children, Frances (William) Larkins of Exeter, NH, James (Donna) Smith of Mantua, Keith Smith of Deptford, Sheryl (John) Willard of Deptford, Kimberly Smith of Deptford; 8 grandchildren, James (Annette) Smith III, Melissa Smith, Cheryl (Jamie) Berry, Jamie (Matthew) Schempp, Joseph Smith, John Willard, Lindsay (Brendan) Leahy, Brian Willard; 13 great grandchildren, Nicole Smith, Ryan Smith, Katelyn Smith, Jordan Williams, James Smith IV, Maya Linsalata, Jameson Berry, Robert Linsalata, Kayla Linsalata, Samuel Berry, Owen Leahy, Eleanor Schempp & John Willard III; sister, Margaret Hargesheimer; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Joseph Harper; and sisters-in-law, Susan Breslin & Patricia (Fred) Jarvis. Jim was also predeceased by his brothers, Harry, Charles, Francis, George, Walt, & Jack Smith; and sisters, Catherine McCormick, Lena Smith & Edna Geiser.

Family and Friends may visit from 9 am to 11 am on Wednesday, August 9th, at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ where a funeral service will be held at 11 am. Burial will follow at Woodbury Memorial Park in West Deptford. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.smithfhmantua.com
