Obituary for Leroy Edward "Roy" Peters

Roy Peters, age 81, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on September 16, 2017. He was born in Croydon, Pennsylvania on November 5, 1935, he resided in Drexel Hill, PA, Haddonfield NJ and after retirement, moved to Sewell NJ. He is survived by Kay Rumbarger, his wife of 59 years: his children Catherine (Mike Hall), Ginny (Fran Corrigan), Ted Peters, Sarah (Chris Mullen): his grandchildren Noelle (Ted Taylor), Austin Hall, Daniel, Owen and Joseph Corrigan, Lee Peters, Natalie Schofield (Ethan), Brian Hall (Rachel) and Eric Hall (Jackie), and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Lauletta.

He graduated from Malvern Prep and Villanova University.

Roy worked for the Ford Meter Box Company in Wabash, Indiana. He started in Sales and eventually became a vice-president of the company. More than a job to him, he loved the people for whom he worked, the friends he made and the challenges of working in the competitive water works industry.

From the time he was old enough to drive, Roy’s passion for cars was boundless. He could take apart and repair almost any part of the cars he owned. He was the go-to guy for car advice for his family and friends. He was proud of the four classic cars which he owned. He worked on them until they were perfect and he has a garage full of trophies that his cars won that attest to his skill.

One of the highlights of his retirement were his numerous trips across Route 66 with his children and grandchildren.

Roy loved to cook and during his retirement he made meals for parishioners through the Fishes and Loaves ministry at Church of the Incarnation. On Mondays during Lent and Advent he made wonderful soup for Soup and Scripture.
When the Health Ministry needed volunteers to drive parishioners to doctors’ appointments, Roy always volunteered and never failed to enjoy the company of those he helped.

Visitation will be from 9:45 am to 10:45 am at the Church of the Incarnation, 240 Main Street, Mantua Township with Memorial Mass following at 11am on Friday, September 22nd.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Gloucester County Animal Shelter, 1200 North Delsea Drive, Clayton, NJ 08312 or the Covenant House, Times Square Station, PO Box 731, New York, NY 10108.
