Obituary for Mary C. Umphress

Mary Christine Umphress (Rosenberger) December 30, 1930 to October 20, 2017. Born in Charleston WV to Ruth and Henry Oscar “Pitts” Rosenberger, She spent her formative years running the mountain trails, moving to California and graduating from Lincoln High School in San Francisco. There she met and married the Iowa sailor, Jack. They traveled the world with the military including billets in San Diego, Bremerton WA, Hawaii and Madrid Spain. Mary worked countless jobs over the years including swimsuit clerk, library clerk, and school bus driver. She retired as a postal clerk in Haddon Heights, NJ. Mary’s true calling was volunteerism. She began as a Sunday school teacher Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader. She served as President of the West Deptford Public Library Board of Trustees as well as a board member. She held many official positions on the governing committees at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Thorofare. Mary held many offices with the West Deptford Lions Club including her recent favorite-dinner chairman. She was the Senior Citizen representative on both the River Winds Project and Shepard’s Farm. In 2012 Mary received the Gloucester County Presidents Award for volunteerism. Mary was predeceased by her husband Jack and parents as well as her brothers Robert Rosenberger and Pitts Eugene Rosenberger. She was also predeceased by her beloved nieces Mary Louise and Ruthie Biemuller. She is survived by her children Diane and David Umphress of Woodbury. Also survived by cherished nieces and nephew Richard Rosenberger (Pat) of Westminster, MD. Christine Bottke (Harold) of Allentown, PA. Susan Delia (Ron) of Bensalem, PA as well as grand nieces Rhiannon Brauer and Megan Brittain Brooks (Don). Special neighbors Carol & Fred Lessor and Paula & Joe Moen.
Family and Friends are invited to visit from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church 74 Church Street Thorofare, NJ 08086. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday. Cremation private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Friends of the WD Library 420 Crown Point Rd.
