Obituary for Fred William Mead

Fred William  Mead
Fred W. Mead age 87, of Mantua passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017. Born in Camden, NJ he served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Fred worked as a Boilermaker for Boilermaker's Union Local 28 in Bayonne, NJ. Fred was an exceptional musician and entertainer who specialized in Country Western Music, and played with Sally Starr, Mel Tillis, George Jones, Elvis and other musicians. He also served as the head of the USO in Texas where he organized performances, and entertained troops during his time in the Air Force. Fred loved spending time on his farm where he raised cows and horses in Farmville, VA, and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his significant other Marion Inverso of Mantua, his children, William Mead of West Deptford, Marilyn Donahue (Robert) of Carneys Point, Deborah Dunn (Marlon) of Vineland, Gary Jones (Deborah) of King, NC, Joanne Payne of King, NC, Michael Foster (Renee) of Mullica Hill, Steven Foster (Angel) of Tuckahoe, Brenda Foster of Philadelphia, Julie Sweeten (Herbert) of Monroeville, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, and his sister Sandra Hess. Predeceased by his son, Brian Foster, his son-in-law, Thomas Payne, and several brothers and sisters.

Family and Friends may visit from 6 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, November 7th, and from 10 AM to 11 AM on Wednesday November 8th at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street Mantua, NJ where funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery in Monroe Township, NJ.
