Obituary for AnnaMay Clanton

AnnaMay Clanton (nee Bassler), of Absecon, NJ (formerly of Wenonah) passed away peacefully on May 7th 2011. She is the beloved wife and best friend of James A. Clanton, devoted mother of J. Allan and his wife Mary of Olney, MD; Lisa Spontak of Woodbury Heights, NJ; the late Steven Cooper and Senga Ann and cherished grandmother “Nana” of Ryan and William Cooper.  Daughter of the late Leroy and Agnes (Hennessey) Bassler, she was born and raised in Woodbury where she worked for Jeannes Bridal Shop for many years until starting a family.
She was a lifetime member and past President of the Women’s Club of Wenonah, a member of the Eastern Star and a dedicated volunteer of Serva-Tray. She enjoyed her luncheons and gathering with the “Jolly Girls”, a group of high school colleagues who remained the closest of friends over the years.  AnnaMay loved spending her summers at Chincoteague, VA and enjoyed sewing, reading, doing crafts, playing her DS and was a faithful Phillies fan.
AnnaMay was a dear and thoughtful person who unselfishly cared more about the needs of others than those of herself, and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and Friends are invited to visit with the family after 2 PM Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main St. Mantua followed by a Memorial Service at 3 pm. Burial will be private. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.smithfhmantua.com.  In lieu of flowers she requests donations be made to the Steven Cooper Clanton Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o of Gateway Regional High School, 775 Tanyard Road, Woodbury Heights, NJ  08096.
