Obituary for Betsy Grace Gillies (Walker)
Betsy Gillies (Walker) passed away quietly at home on January 13, 2022. Her daughter Dorothy was with her in her final moments. Betsy’s husband, Stanley predeceased her. Betsy had seven children, Betsy (Tuvell), Dennis, Robert, Lynn (Sanders), Stanley, Louise (Benson) and Dorothy. Two children, Robert and Louise also predeceased Betsy.
Betsy had eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. She was pre-deceased by one grand child.
She worked for many years as a cook for Glassboro State College, the Telford Inn, in Mantua and the Penn Linen Company in Woodbury.
Betsy loved being with her family and friends and enjoyed many weekend cook outs at home around the pool. The coffee pot was always on when friends or family stopped. There was always room at the dinner table for guests and an extra bedroom when needed.
Friends and family are invited to visit from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, and Wednesday January 19th, from 10:00 to 11:00am at Smith Funeral Home 47 Main Street Mantua, NJ 08051. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am followed by interment at Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia. A late lunch will be served from 3:00 to 6:00pm at the Mantua VFW 7679 hall in Mantua following interment.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
