Obituary for Carmela C. Bongiovanni (Varico)

Carmela Cecilia Bongiovanni, age 89, of West Deptford, NJ, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021. "Millie" as she was known to family and friends, was born and raised in South Philadelphia to the late Rosario and Sebastiana ("Anna") Varico. She graduated from Southern High School in South Philly. Eventually, she would marry Anthony, a neighbor boy in Philly who lived a few houses down from hers. In 1969, now with four children in tow and expecting a fifth, Millie and Anthony packed up the family and moved "across the bridge" to West Deptford, where she remained for 52 years until her passing. Some of the things she liked to do were ceramics, crossword puzzles, word searches, crocheting, growing houseplants, gardening, making sure visitors ate when they came to see her, being taken out to lunches and dinners with her children, joking around with her grandchildren, and shopping on QVC. She also loved just being a mother to her five children and being Grandmom and "G-Mom" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wife of the late Anthony Salvatore Bongiovanni, she is survived by her devoted children Janis Adams and her husband Chuck, Judy Bruno and her husband James, Joyce Hall, and Anthony Bongiovanni and his wife Laura. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren Grant, B rittany (Joe), James (Kelli), Matthew (Alyssa), Erica (Michael), Danielle (Andrew), Joseph (Barb), Carl, Jenna (Dave), Angelina, and Anthony. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Juliette, Penelope, Blake, James, Jr., Avery, Jack, and Tyson, and many nieces and nephews. Millie was also predeceased by her daughter Jean Meyer, son-in-law Joe Hall, and several sisters and brothers.

Funeral arrangements will be private. Interment will be at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Monroe Township, NJ. As an expression of sympathy, contributions can be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 98018, Washington, DC 20090-8018, Alzheimer's Association of NJ, Attn: Development Dept., 425 Eagle Rock Ave. #203, Roseland, NJ 07068 or the National Brain Tumor Society at https://braintumor.org.
