Obituary for Charles F. Sharp Sr.

Charles F.  Sharp Sr.
Charles F. Sharp Sr. age 92, of Mantua passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016. Born in Philadelphia, PA on February 3, 1924 he was raised in Pitman, NJ and attended school until the 10th grade. Charles served in the US Navy during WWII and Korea. He also served in the US Coast Guard Reserve with a total of 28 1/2 years of military service.

Charles married Dorothy A. Taylor in 1947, had three children, and resided in Mantua since 1952. He worked for the Woodbury Daily Times, now the South Jersey Times for 33 years. He is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, and his daughters, Sheila J. Sharp, and Christine L. Sharp.

He is survived by his son, Charles F. Sharp Jr. "Chuck" and his wife Kathryn A. "Susie", 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, brothers, William F. Sharp and his wife Nancy, Robert Sharp and his wife Lee, Jay Sharp and his wife Dorothy, and his sister Bonnie Hanna and her husband Bob.

Family & friends may visit from 9:30 to 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 16th, at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ where a funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Burial with military honors will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "Feed the Children" online at www.feedthechildren.org or by mail, PO Box 97067, Washington DC, 20090-7067 and/or the Corinthian Cupboard c/o Mantua United Methodist Church, 201 Mantua Blvd., Mantua, NJ 08051.
