Obituary for Doris M. Jefferys
Doris M. Jefferys (nee White) age 90, formerly of Woodbury, NJ, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township. Doris was born in Camden, raised in Westville, and upon her marriage, moved to Woodbury where she resided her entire life. She was a stay-at-home mom to her five children until her youngest started school, at which time she went back to work part-time as a school secretary at Evergreen Avenue School in Woodbury. She progressed to a full-time principal's secretary at Walnut Street School, where she retired after 25 enjoyable years of service.
Doris had a very active life. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the Jersey and Maryland shores with her family in tow. "The family that travels together stays together,” was often heard. Once her children were grown, the traveling continued with her favorite traveling companion, her husband of 58-plus years, Biggie.
She was an avid reader her entire life and had a gift for the English language and editing. In her late 80s, she assisted with editing a nephrology textbook to be used by nursing students and practitioners. As the final proofreader, she often found errors that were missed by others. She was also a valuable proofreader for the annual Lenten devotional books published by local churches. Doris also enjoyed her church life at St. John's Lutheran Church in Westville until it closed, and later she attended St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Woodbury.
But for Doris, her greatest joy in life was her family that she and Biggie created. She felt especially blessed to have had a close relationship with all 9 of her grandchildren and felt fortunate to meet all her great-grandchildren. Her house was the center of activity for holidays, large family gatherings, and daily drop-ins. All friends of the family were always welcome.
Predeceased by her husband, William H. "Biggie" Jefferys III, she is survived by her children: William J. "Billy" Jefferys (Carolyn), Jo Ann Campbell, Terry Jacobs (John), Kim Pipolo (David), Tracey Jefferys, Karen Parks; 9 grandchildren: Travis Jacobs (Meghan), Taylor Sferra (Ross), Ryan Jefferys (Shelley), Dana English (Bryan), Kyle Jefferys (Maddie), Caitlyn Pipolo, Dylan Jefferys, Anthony Pipolo, David Pipolo; and 8 great-grandchildren: Ayden, Blake, Troy, Charlotte, Shane, Jack, Luke, and Reagan.
Private services for the family will be held with burial to follow at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro, NJ 08020.
