Obituary for Edward James Wolfe

Edward J. Wolfe of Sewell passed into another life on February 24, 2022. He was born April 23, 1923, in Hammonton to Joseph and Rose Wolfe. Ed was predeceased by Antonette, his devoted wife of 58 years, daughter Beverly Goetz and siblings Robert Wolfe and Dorothy Wagner. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Nolan (Patrick), son in law Chris Goetz, granddaughter Rachel Jones (Lenny), grandsons Anthony Goetz (Kristina) and Robert Goetz. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, David, Jake, Josh and Isaiah Diaz, Jakob Jones, Dominic and Jaxon Goetz and his nieces and nephews.

He was raised in Grenloch, NJ and attended Gloucester Township Schools. He graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School in 1941. In his teens he achieved Eagle Scout honors. He served in the US Navy in World War II and the Korean Conflict with a 10 year Naval Reserve service. Ed was a graduate of Glassboro State College, Class of 1950 and earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Early in his career, he was employed as a car inspector and later a trainman and conductor for the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines. He later pursued a 30 year career in education with the New Jersey Public School System as a teacher and administrator. During that time, he was with Pitman, Cherry Hill, and Gloucester Township School Systems. Ed continued to work for years after retirement as a leadership consultant and was also an active member of the Church of the Incarnation and Mantua Lions Club.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family Wednesday March 2nd 6-8 PM at Smith Funeral Home 47 Main Street, Mantua NJ and Thursday 9:45 – 10:45 AM at Church of the Incarnation 240 Main Street, Mantua NJ followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Interment with military honors will be at Wenonah Cemetery, Mantua, NJ.
