Obituary for Elbert John "Bud" Hughes

Elbert "Bud" Hughes age 82, of Ocala, FL formerly of Mantua Twp. passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021. Born in Paulsboro, to the late Elbert U. Hughes "Junior" and Mary Rose (McNamara), he graduated from Pitman High School Class of 1956. Bud enlisted in the Army after the Korean War and was a multi-craftsman at Huntsman Chemical Plant in West Deptford, NJ. He enjoyed being a snowbird between Ocala, FL and Carol Lynn Resorts in Woodbine, NJ. Bud was a member of the SJ Retreads Motorcycle Club, enjoyed yard sales & estate sales, and watching his son & grandsons play sports.

He is survived by his son, John E. Hughes (Annette), of Mantua, grandchildren John E. Hughes, Jr. of Delray Beach FL and Andrew J. Hughes, of Mantua, and his sister Joyce Oliver. Bud was also survived by his companion Martha Okler of Ocala, FL. He was predeceased by his sister Leeann Giordano.

Family and Friends may visit from 9 am to 11 am on Wednesday, March 31st, at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ where funeral services will be held at 11 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery in Monroe Township, NJ. As an expression of sympathy, contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
