Obituary for George J. McLaughlin
George J. McLaughlin age 65, of Mantua passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019. George grew up in Gloucester City, NJ, where he attended Gloucester City High School. Following high school he took classes at Rutgers University before working for Acme Markets for over 40 years.
In his youth George enjoyed scuba diving and duck hunting with his friends. His interests included World War II history, documentaries, the Phillies and Flyers, and most of all Notre Dame Football. George loved watching his children play sports growing up and volunteered with the Mantua Little League. He was very devoted to his sister and children and adored his granddaughters.
He is survived by his children, daughter Kelly Diaz and her husband Ben, son Chris McLaughlin and his wife Andrea, 3 grandchildren Riley, Abby and Charlotte, and his sister Carol Flannery and her husband Timothy. George was predeceased by his parents John McLaughlin and Mary McLaughlin (nee Kuclo).
Family and Friends are invited to visit from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, January 29th, 2019 and from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Wednesday, January 30th, 2019 at Smith Funeral Home 47 Main Street Mantua, New Jersey 08051. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation.
