Obituary for George M. Somers Jr.
George M. Somers, Jr. age 81, of Mullica Hill passed Monday, April 25, 2022. He was retired from the Philadelphia Navy Yard where he worked as a Foreman. Having built four of the Somers' family homes, George spent his retirement doing what he loved, working with his hands. He was always involved in family home projects, building furniture, and was known to be quite the craftsman.
His greatest love was spending time with his ever growing family and traveling with his loving predeceased wife, Judy.
He was a veteran of the United States Army 101st Airborne Paratrooper division and a long-time member of the Audubon Masonic Lodge.
In his earlier years, Mr. Somers was actively involved in community sports programs coaching Mantua AA Baseball and Oak Valley Football.
George is survived by his daughters Cheryl Bellocchio (Joseph) and Jane Somers, son George M. Somers III, his grandchildren Toni, Joseph, and Matthew; Great grandchildren Jack, Giuliana, Joseph, Michael, Santo, Gage, Nico, and Vada; also, by siblings Bruce and Pearl. He was predeceased by his brother David, and sisters Joyce and Irene.
Family and Friends are invited to visit from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Smith Funeral Home 47 Main Street Mantua, New Jersey 08051. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Smith Funeral Home 47 Main Street Mantua, New Jersey 08051, with burial to follow at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro, NJ 08020.
