Obituary for Gilbert Henry Hartlage Jr.







Gilbert Henry Hartlage, Jr. age 86 of Mantua Twp. passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023 at home.  Born in Louisville, KY to the late Gilbert Henry Hartlage, Sr. and Thresa (nee Mattingly), he was also known as Rocky, Gil, Sonny Jim, Uncle Jimmy, Pop, Rocky Pop and Dad. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Class of 1955.  Gilbert served in the US Air Force starting in 1956, married the love of his life, Marilyn, in February of 1957 and was honorably discharged from military service in 1960.  He excelled in electronics and made that his life career.  Gilbert worked as a civilian at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, retiring after 37 years as an electronics instructor.  After retiring from the Naval Shipyard, Gilbert worked for NDI Engineering Company in West Deptford, NJ for 20 years.  His faith was very important to him; he was a member of Word of Truth Church in Swedesboro, NJ and a former member of Springs of Life Church in Mullica Hill, NJ.  In his spare time, Gilbert enjoyed fishing, mowing his lawn, and taking care of his roses.  He was talented in art, was an amazing storyteller and would often be called upon to do blessings and toasts at family events.  



Gilbert is survived by his wife Marilyn Hartlage (nee Texter); daughters, Dawn Annette Fowler (Horace), Tina Leigh Cali (Michael), Tracy Darlene Hartlage (Arnold Howard), Lori Lynne McMillan; 14 grandchildren, Jessica Drexler (Matt), Sara Zeeman, Rebecca Fowler, Marilyn Myers (Fred), Justin Butler, Alexandria McMillan, Hannah Kreitzer (Joshua), Aaron Cali (Mason), Benjamin Cali (Alexandra), E. David Cali, Joshua Cali, Daniel Cali, and Jordan Hartlage; 14 great grandchildren, Annalise, Claire, Elaina, Cooper, Aaron, Austin, Avery, Jackson, Josiah, Aurora, Evie, Leo, Lincoln, Micah, Henry, Hazel, and great grandson Tommy on the way; his sister, Theresa Darlean Morrison (William), and his brother, William Patrick Hartlage (Judy).  He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Raelyn Hartlage, and his sister, Marilyn Ann Tharp & her husband Thilo.
