Obituary for Gloria Vane Swortz (Sturts)

Gloria Vane Swortz age 89 of Glassboro, NJ formerly of Newtown, PA for over 30 years passed away peacefully at home on April 30, 2021. Born in Philadelphia to the late Alfred Gustave Sturts and Mildred Ann Sasse Sturts, Gloria graduated from Frankford High School in 1949 and sang in the A. Cappella Choir. She worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Jenkintown, PA and a reservations tour agent for Amtrak. Gloria was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, Levittown PA and served as the choir director there for 30 years. She loved music and was a trained vocalist. She was an avid aficionado of movies old and new. Gloria had a beautiful heart and soul and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her beloved husband Michael J. Swortz, Jr., her daughters Karen Miller Ridges (Mike) of Freeport, IL, and Wendy Miller Webb (Doug) of Mullica Hill, NJ., three grandchildren, Lauren Shockey (Mark) of Langhorne, PA, Alyssa Maietta & Christopher Maietta, both of Philadelphia, PA, and seven Shockey great-grandchildren: Nora, Claire. Lucy, Eve, Genny, Lydia, and Josiah; her brother Stephen Stoltz (Joyce) of Vero Beach, FL, and sister Anita Stoltz Thomas (Patrick) of Arkansas.

The family wishes to thank all of Gloria’s wonderful caregivers from Bayada Home Care, Angelic Health Hospice, and others who provided her with abundant patience, kindness, compassion, and expert medical care and emotional support in her last months. Mere words cannot express our gratitude.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Emmaus Road Lutheran Church, 2185 Bristol Oxford Valley Rd, Levittown PA 19057 on Wednesday, July 7th. Family and friends may visit at 10:30 am with service at 11:00 am. Please join the family for a luncheon after the service. The interment will follow the luncheon at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 25 Byberry Rd., Huntingdon Valley, PA. Memories and Condolences can be shared at www.smithfhmantua.com.
