Obituary for Harry W. "Bud" Donnelly

Harry W. Donnelly, age 86, of Sewell passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021. He was raised in Willow Grove, PA, where he attended Upper Moreland School District from 1940 until his graduation in 1952. Harry played football, basketball and baseball for Upper Moreland Jr. High and participated on the 1949 BuxMont League Championship Football Team, as a sophomore, where he mostly sat. He lettered in baseball as a sophomore. In 1950, as a junior, Harry started on the BuxMont League Championship Football team where he was selected to 1st team All-League Team. He was also a member of the 1950 - 1951 Basketball Championship season. In 1951, Harry lettered in Track, and was a member of Penn Relay Class, winning 1st Place in the mile relay, and 2nd Place in State 1 Mile Relay. As a senior he was voted to 2nd team All BuxMont Football and Captain of the 1951 team. He won the track MVP award and placed in three events at the BuxMont Championship Meet. in 1952 Harry started for Willow Grove Boys Club Independent Team with a record of 11-1.
Harry was a four-year starter for Ursinus Football and Track where he was a two-time MVP for both. He was selected to Williamstown Balanced Poll and All-American Football in 1956. He graduated from Ursinus College in February 1957. Ten days after graduation he was drafted in the US Army. He ran on Fort Jackson's Track Team in 1957.

Harry continued his love of sports while teaching and coaching at Deptford High School, NJ, 1959-1966, while there he was the Varsity Track Coach 1959-1962 and Athletic Director 1962-1965; Plymouth Whitemarsh, Pa., Varsity Track Coach 1966-1969 and 1972-1974; West Deptford High School, 1974-1979 and West Deptford Middle School, Varsity Track Head Coach (Boys and Girls), 1974-1979 and South Jersey Coach of the Year in 1979. He was elected to Ursinus College Sports Hall of Fame in 1974. His approximate Won/Lost record for track was 86-48. Harry also enjoyed a good round of golf, the challenge of crossword puzzles, and any game of cards, among other things.

Harry is survived by his dear wife, Evelyn "Bonnie" (nee Stetser); children, Jami Crabtree, Christopher Donnelly (Monica), Michele Lerro, Lisa Hager (Joseph) and Matthew Lerro; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
