Obituary for Jan Karpinski

Jan Karpinski, age 84, of West Deptford went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marianna, three daughters Bozena (Wayne) of Wilmington, DE, Justyna (Tim) of Washington Twp., Iwona (Chuck) of Mantua, sister Ewa (Jan) of Poland and grandchildren Alyssa (James), Stephanie, Brandon and Justin. He is preceded in death by his parents Stanislaw and Genowefa, and his brothers Stefan and Henryk.

Born in Dabek, Poland, he became involved in political activism in the early 80’s, fighting against communism in his native country. Due to martial law, he was eventually arrested for his efforts and was forced to leave Poland with his young family before settling in the Cherry Hill, NJ area in 1983. His strong convictions and courage to stand up for what he believed in, no matter the outcome, remains an inspiration and encouragement to his family today.

He was a faithful Catholic with a profound love and devotion to the Blessed Mother, Mary. He was a family man and provider who modeled a strong work ethic and commitment to always doing the right thing and following through with your responsibilities. He always thought of other people and giving back, especially to the less fortunate. His family will miss his smile and laugh, love of celebrating birthdays and opening gifts and loyalty to all Philly sports teams even when they disappointed him.

Family and friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Church of the Incarnation, 240 Main Street, Mantua, NJ 08051 followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Blackwood, NJ.
