Obituary for Janet Lyn Garrett (Mullen)

Janet Lyn (Mullen) Garrett, age 48, of Clarksboro, NJ, was called home to heaven on Thursday, February 25, 2021. She was born in Woodbury, NJ, to Harry and Carol (Lyons) Mullen. She is survived by her parents, her beloved daughters Abigail and Emily Garrett, her sister Patti (Mullen) Lail, brother-in-law Joel Lail, and her nieces Megan and Erin Lail.

Janet was a graduate of Kingsway Regional High School in Woolwich, NJ where she was a member of the marching band. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Messiah College in Grantham, PA. Her professional life was spent serving others at Bancroft in Mullica Hill, NJ where she worked with those with brain injuries or developmental disabilities, and at the crisis center at Inspira Hospital in Woodbury, NJ.

Janet was a lifelong Methodist, worshipping at Evangelical United Methodist Church in Clarksboro, NJ and Sharptown North in Woolwich, NJ. She was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher.

She enjoyed vacationing with her family in Ocean City, NJ where it was essential to have breakfast at Bob’s Grill, get Cinnamon Pull Apart at Dot’s, and ride a surrey along the boardwalk. She was particularly skilled at grabbing the steel rings on the Merry-Go-Round at Wonderland Pier.

She loved her daughters Abby and Emily above all else. She looked forward to being a Backstage Mom each year at their DeeDots dance recitals. And she proudly rang her cowbell at their marching band competitions. She was proud of the young women that they have become.

Janet was taken from us too soon. But during her time on Earth, she showed strength and courage in the midst of every hardship. She always had a positive word and ready smile for those around her.

Janet loved her girls, her family and her friends in the best way possible - fiercely and with her whole heart.

Family and friends may visit from 9am to 11am on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ. Funeral services will be held at 11am. Burial will follow at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro. Contributions may be sent to Lighthouse Hospice 200 Lake Drive East, Suite 205, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002.
