Obituary for John W. Decker Jr.

John W. Decker, Jr., age 80, of Mantua, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022. John was born to the late Helen and John Decker, Sr. in Woodbury on March 18th, 1942 and went on to become a U.S. Navy Veteran who defended his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the USS Newport News. After his time in the military, John was a successful entrepreneur, real estate investor, and business owner. He was the well-known owner of George's Auto Body in Historical Pitman, where his shop and presence was an integral part of the community. John was a member of the Pitman Masonic Lodge since 1992. He was an avid sportsman and his passion was deep sea fishing. He fished along the East Coast from Maine to the Florida Keys, Louisiana, Baja Mexico, and Panama. He also enjoyed hunting and gardening. His favorite flower was the rose. John’s most precious time was spent traveling and making memories with his loving wife JoAnn Decker (Poston). Together they hosted countless imaginative theme parties, nothing lived up to the crab parties. He will always be remembered as having a tall glass of VO and water in hand, while he thought of his most creative ideas and listened to loud rock and roll music.

John is survived by his wife JoAnn Decker (Poston). Children: Debra James (Bob) and John Decker, III (Teresa). Step-daughter: Michelle Evans (Jim). Siblings: Anna Pancelli, George Decker, and Ken Decker, Sr. Grandchildren: Jessica, Savanah, Anthony, Emaline, and twin girls. Niece: Dominique Aquilino (Mark) and their daughter Alanna.
