Obituary for John A. Holm Jr.

On Thursday, October 15, 2020, John A. Holm, loving husband, father of four children and grandfather of seven, passed away at sunset at the age of eighty. John grew up in Camden, New Jersey and was an all-city football player for Camden High School. Despite offers to play at larger schools, including Syracuse University, he never planned on attending college. However, during the summer of 1957 he met Pete Pihos who urged him to attend National Agricultural College (Delaware Valley), and as a two-way tackle he excelled for the Aggies. John met the love of his life, Eileen Hellyer, while attending the National Agricultural College and after graduation he and Eileen were married. John and Eileen shared a wonderful life together before Eileen lost her battle to cancer in 2013. The couple resided in Mantua Township, New Jersey where they raised their four children Colleen, John (Carol Campbell), Jennifer, and Michael (Stephanie Busch). John retired from Conrail after more than 40 years of service as a damage prevention inspector. As a great family man, John raised his children to be strong and just. As a supportive and dedicated father and grandfather, he attended all events that his children participated in and loved his grandchildren with all of his heart. He was proud of and hopeful that his legacy, his grandchildren Valarie Perretti (Patrick Hughes), William Perretti, Mackenzie Holm, Connor Holm, Katelyn Emick, Mason Holm, and Madelyn Holm, will accomplish great things. John demonstrated his strong will and determination in everything he did, and will always be remembered for his exceptional character, fortitude, and great love of his family. John was a fighter all his life - overcoming a challenging childhood, defeating cancer three times, and losing his beloved wife. He died peacefully surrounded by his children and grandchildren. John will be forever missed and always remembered as a man among men.
