Condolence: While I don't know your family personally, I do know the feelings of emptiness when losing a loved one in death. John, devoted husband and father, who will be dearly missed by all who knew him, please take comfort in the promise from God, that we have the opportunity to see our loved ones who have passed away in death (John 17:3)

Condolence: I am very sorry to hear of the passing of John Howard...a great man! I had the pleasure of coaching and teaching with John at Gateway in my first few years in education. John was extremely helpful to me in my young career, and he was an outstanding educator. I still have some of his drawings of me, our wrestlers, the "baby gators," and coaches from camp. My sincerest condolences to the Howard family.

Condolence From: Chuck Texter
Condolence: I first met John in 1971 at Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity house. I was invited for West Chester home coming by my best friend Mike Rantz who was a fraternity brother. Throughout the year I visited a few times and always remembered John for whatever reason. Last year, Mike and his wife Robin asked a group of their friends to go on a trip out west with them. My wife and I said sure and he told me that John and his wife Kathy were going and I thought great. It was a very enjoyable time getting to talk to them both and to see John at his best with his drawings. He kept a daily diary of drawings and commentary about our tour guide that was halarious. He made a great trip even greater by sharing his talent with us. My wife Janet and I are very saddened to hear of his passing. He will be sorely missed but not forgotten. Chuck and Janet Texter

Condolence: Kathy, Kristin, and Ben, Taught with John for many, many years at Gateway. Can't tell you what a ray of sunshine he was in so many boring in-service days and department meetings. He'd sit there quietly with his drawing pads and we couldn't wait to see whom he had captured that day. Students loved his classes, from Poetry through Music to Honors English. He will be missed by so many whose lives he touched.

Condolence: My heartfelt condolences to the Howard family for your loss. I never had the pleasure of having Mr. Howard as a teacher at Gateway, but he and his classes were legendary to every student who attended GRHS. Condolence: I was not fortunate enough to have Mr. Howard as a teacher but I was fortunate enough to witness his love of the students at Gateway through his art and through his "bantering" through the halls of Gateway - with his students, wresting team and especially with Pete Ryan. He exuded love and fun :) My condolences to his family for the void left by the lack of his physical presence. But he left a mark on this world and a light that will never be extinguished.

Condolence: Loved Mr. Howard. Had him for one class "Poetry Through Contemporary Music" and also used to see him all the time hanging with Mr. Gregory and Mr. Ryan in the Mechanical Drawing Office. Got to see him more recently at the memorial service for Mr. Gregory. It was great to see him after all those years . Great guy.....

Condolence: I spent a majority of my day reading such heart-felt condolences on Facebook from former colleagues and students. No doubt that Mr Howard made faculty meetings fun and brought a sense of levity in the hallowed halls of gateway. As a teacher, he challenged us to be our best and presented material in a way that we could understand and relate. But my favorite times in class involved getting him off topic. He talked about his favorite authors and movies and music. It was these conversations that helped open our minds and presented a different (sometimes scary, sometimes inspiring) view of the world. He was truly a special force that we were blessed to know. To Kathy, Ben and Kristen - thank you for sharing him with us. May you find comfort in the memories you hold dear.
