Obituary for John Ray Long Sr.

John Ray  Long Sr.
John Ray Long Sr. 73, of West Deptford formerly of Gibbstown passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019. Born in Mickleton he served in the Army during the Vietnam War. John worked for Mobil Oil in Paulsboro and was a member of the Raccoon Creek Boat Club in Bridgeport and VFW Post 5579 in Gibbstown. He was a Phillies and Eagles Fan and in his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and watching the Eagles and Phillies.

He is survived by his wife, Doris A. Manel Long, his son, John Ray Long, Jr.; stepchildren, Jimmy Salter, Joshua Salter (Tina) and Danielle Salter (Steph); six grandchildren, Olivia, Chad, Dominic, Dante, Joshua, Jr., and Megan, brothers, Donald and Gary Long; and several special nieces, nephews and friends. John was also survived by his dog Lexi. He was predeceased by his brothers, Earl, Bobby, Wayne and Timmy Long; and sisters, Betty Sue Gelormini and Ruth Ann Reis.

Family and Friends may visit from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, July 23rd, and 10 am to 11 am on Wednesday, July 24th at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street Mantua, where a funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church of National Park, 414 Asbury Ave., National Park, NJ 08063, or VFW Post 5579, 743 W. Broad St., Gibbstown, NJ 08027.
