Joseph Charles  Albert Sr.
Joseph Charles Albert Sr., age 91, of Mantua Township, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019. He was born on July 14, 1927 in Wilkes Barre, PA to the late Joseph Charles Albert and Jeanette (Ellman) Albert. He had two older sisters, Jeanette and Marion, and later, his sister Catherine and brothers Edward, Charlie, Jackie and Hugh were born to make the family complete.

After the early death of his father, Joe became the man of the family. He began working as a Flyboy and ultimately became a Journeyman at the International Color Printing Company in Wilkes Barre, PA. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. After training at Parris Island, Joe was sent to China via the Panama Canal. He was aboard two troop transports, the Wakefield and the Breckenridge. In 1947 he began dating Marjorie, his future wife, and they were married on June 11, 1949.

When the Wilkes Barre paper closed in 1963, Joe began working at the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News. He lived in the YMCA and commuted back to Wilkes Barre to be with his family whenever possible. Eventually he bought a house in Mantua, NJ and brought his family to their new home and church.

In 1979 he was severely injured in a traffic accident and medically retired from the Philadelphia newspapers where he had been employed as a Pressman. He attended classes at Gloucester County during his rehabilitation and became an expert at caning chairs and restoring furniture.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at the Church of the Incarnation and eventually served two years as Grand Knight. He was a Eucharistic Minister and enjoyed all of the church activities he and his wife were involved in over the years.

Joe was loving and devoted husband of the late Marjorie Albert (Davis), he is survived by his children, James J. Albert, Mary Elaine Rios, Susan Albert Mausolf (Frederick), Joseph C. Albert, Jr. (Jennifer), Brian Albert and Robbi Anne Albert-Jones, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, his brother, Charlie and several nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his son Kevin Albert, his daughter-in-law, Nadine Albert, and siblings, Marion, Catherine, Edward, Jackie, Hugh and Jeanette.

Family and Friends may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 28th at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, and on Monday, April 29th from 9:45 am to 10:45 am at the Church of the Incarnation, 240 Main Street, Mantua, NJ 08051 where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Wenonah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Church of the Incarnation at the above address.
