Rev. Dr. Joseph J. Sastic age 91, of Woodstown passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020.
Joseph was predeceased by his first wife, Emogene m. (1949) and is survived by his wife, Evangeline Brown Sastic (nee Proffitt) m. (2008); children, Dr. Jonathan Sastic (Dr. Lois), Dr. Daniel Sastic (Cheryl) and Judy Gangemi (Vincent II); also grandchildren, Timothy (Meredith), Craig (Karis), Vincent (Rachel), Laura, Jaclyn (Dan), Joseph (Karin) and Joanna (Erik); and 12 great grandchildren. Joseph was born in Passaic, NJ as the son of Joseph and Amelia Sastic. He was raised in Clifton, NJ and then attended Kings College and earned his bachelor degree from Houghton College. Sensing the call to Ministry, Joseph graduated from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Bachelor of Divinity in 1952 and later earned a Doctor of Ministry at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Joseph's 38 years of faithful ministry began at Fairmount Baptist Church in Newark, NJ in 1953. He accepted the call to pastor Sewell Community Baptist Church (NJ) in 1959, where he joyfully served a loving congregation for 31 years. During his ministry, he also served as Chaplain to the Sewell Fire Department, organized baccalaureate services for Clearview Regional High School and served on State and National Boards for the American Baptist Churches. After retiring from church ministry, he then served as Chaplain and Administrator at The Baptist Home of South Jersey in Riverton, (NJ). His passions in ministry included preaching, teaching, musical talents, and caring deeply for his congregation. Joseph loved his family vacations to Green Pond, and Ocean City, NJ as well as many trips abroad and traveling between Aiken SC and Woodstown NJ . He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, and playing scrabble. His family and friends will miss him dearly, but find comfort in knowing he is rejoicing in heaven with his Lord and Savior. "Well done my faithful servant". Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:00pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, March 12'h and 10:00am to 11:00am Friday, March 13th at First Baptist Church of Woodstown 117 S. So sorry to hear of your loss. I was unable to attend the services today but wanted you to know Linda (DuBois) and I will be thinking of you. Your father was present when we were married at Incarnation parish in 1978. I think about you guys when I drive thru Sewell from time to time. I will always recall your mother and father as being very kind and caring people. We could use them today
Be Well
