Obituary for K. Edward Hedenberg Sr.

Karl Edward Hedenberg Sr., age 89, of Sewell, formerly of Mullica Hill, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, he served in the Navy during WWII on the aircraft carrier the USS Hornet CV-12. Ed worked for Ironworkers Local 399 where he was known as "Swede". He was a member of the Bonsal Blues Military Band from 1960 to 1985 where he was known as "Crash". Ed was also a member of the Hornet Association where he served as President in 1998, and was a member of the American Legion Post 133 in Woodbury. He enjoyed swimming, boating, fishing, camping, and bowling.

Ed is survived by his wife, Anna Hedenberg, his children, Karl Hedenberg & his wife Linda of Mullica Hill, SueAnn DuBois & her husband Chip of Porters Corner, NY, JoAnn Lada & her husband Barry of Cherry Hill, and Kathleen Lado & her husband Jose of Williamstown, seven grandchildren, Joe, Jessica, Lisa, Alan, Ben, Kate, and Sam, and his two sisters, Elizabeth Oldt & Gertrude Martin. Ed was predeceased by his brother, Robert Hedenberg.

Relatives & friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 PM on Sunday, Oct. 5th, at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua and from 10 to 11 AM on Monday, Oct. 6th, at the Catholic Community Of The Holy Spirit At Holy Name of Jesus Church, 17 Earlington Ave., Mullica Hill. A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM. Interment with military honors will follow at Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery in Monroe Township, NJ.
