Obituary for Kathryn L. Davison

Kathryn L. (nee Gonzalez) Davison, born August 8, 1930, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2022. Predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Ted, parents Joseph and Lida M. (Horner) Gonzalez, and brothers Clark and Eldred Gonzalez, and special friend, Harold Pidgeon. She leaves behind daughters Janet Tweedle (Roy) of Boise, Idaho, and Judy Frett (Ted) of West Deptford, grandchildren Jenny Butler (Daniel), Eric Frett (Christie), Scott Tweedle (Rebecca), and Brian Tweedle (Katie) and was Granny to 13 great-grandchildren.

Born on Spring Garden Street in Woodstown, Kathryn lived there until the family moved to Westville when she was 8, graduating from Woodbury High School in 1948. In 1949 she met and married the love of her life, Ted. They moved to West Deptford in 1955, and she continued to live there after Ted’s passing in 2007. In 2018 Kathryn moved to the United Methodist Communities in Pitman (Pitman Manor), where she was reacquainted with many old friends and made many new ones. She missed Ted greatly, but thoroughly loved being with her nearby 11 great-grandchildren, and enjoyed through Facebook watching her two in California as they grew.

Kathryn loved spending her early summer years at Suits Us, a small house her parents bought in 1941 on Long Beach Island. Built on the edge of a lagoon, she always said this isolated cottage had the first picture window in Harvey Cedars. While at Woodbury High School (Class of 1948) she was proud of being chosen to sing in All- State Chorus. She worked for the State of New Jersey in Camden and met Ted through their United Methodist Youth Fellowship days on the state level, as he was from Cream Ridge, NJ. They married in 1949 and lived in several South Jersey locations before settling down in the Greenfields section of West Deptford, at that time a brand-new housing development.

During their married life, bitten by “the travel bug,” they enjoyed several cruises and visited all 50 states. After the girls started school, Kathryn spent most of her employed years working for doctors at Memorial Hospital, KNS Lab, and the podiatry office of Drs. Josh Williams and David Carrozzino. She retired to care for Ted as his health declined. Always involved in church life, she continued to sing in the choir. Even living at The Manor, she sang in the Young at Heart choir. Even in her final years, her voice was still strong, true, and unwavering as in her younger days. Kathryn loved cooking. She recently said she most enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren, however, always regretted that Ted passed away before any of them were born.

The family is very grateful to the staff of Pitman Manor for being so concerned and caring for our mom. A graveside service will be held at 9:30 am on January 7th at Sharptown Cemetery. Visitation will follow at Evangelical United Methodist Church, 14 W. Cohawkin Rd., NJ 08021 at 10:15 am followed by a memorial service at church at 11:00 am.
