Obituary for Louise Tucker
Miss Louise Tucker, of Wenonah, NJ, born Dec. 26, 1929 passed away Wednesday March 24, 2020 of
natural causes at the age of 90. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Samuel "Bud", Tucker and Frances Rode Tucker, her sister, Jane Tucker Ramsay, and her brother, Donald Tucker. Louise enjoyed an independent, single and vibrant, life having studied Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, art at
Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and massage therapy. She spent many of her younger years living on Elfreth’s Alley, in center city Philadelphia before relocating to Mullica Hill, NJ, Swedesboro, NJ, in Wenonah, NJ as her mothers' primary care giver, and finally settled in Clayton, NJ. In the mid-50’s she attended the Philadelphia Boat Show and while there, purchased a kit and proceeded to build a run-about power boat to be enjoyed for many years at her family’s home in Townsend’s Inlet, NJ.
While doing Private Duty Nursing at Philadelphia area hospitals in the early 60’s she pursued her love of art by attending Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts where she won two fellowships for highest honors which allowed her to study abroad in Europe for two consecutive years. Although trained in classic oil painting, after graduating from PAFA she gradually moved into abstract art and collages, working in many mediums producing large and small constructive art, weavings and wall hangings creatively using scrap material of copper, silver and leather to add additional texture to her pieces and expression. She exhibited widely and many of her pieces are in private and public collections around the country. She interrupted this blossoming career to aid her ailing mother until her mother passed. She continued to work on art for the rest of her life, but added a new challenge, in the 1980’s. She studied and mastered therapeutic and Swedish massage and earned a living providing service to countless athletes and other clients.
Louise is survived by her sister, Nancy Tucker Mohr of Reading, PA, 13 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Burial will be private with a public memorial service to be planned at a later time.
