Marguerite Clarke Shaeffer aged eighty-six years, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, February 3, 2019. She was surrounded by loved ones at her home in Sewell, New Jersey. Marguerite was born on January 14, 1933 to Harry and Jeanette Clarke of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Frankford High School class of 1950 and attended both Temple University and Drexel University. She has many degrees and certifications, but most predominately a degree is Gerontology. Marguerite worked several jobs in her early years ranging from a doctors office assistant to a radio personality. Her career was majorly spent as an employee of Gloucester County working with the Department of Transportation for disabled and elderly citizens. Throughout her life she received many accolades and was recognized for her services both as a founding member of Robin’s Nest, ARC and a 4-H leader. The most important aspects of her life were her family and faith. Marguerite married George Nash Shaeffer Jr. on May 4, 1954 at the Philadelphia Naval Base. George was a Naval officer who served in World War II on the battleship Ticonderoga. George and Marguerite loved each other eternally and shared an inseparable bond. The two had their first child, David Wayne and their daughter, Heather Lynn Shaeffer (Pool). George and Marguerite also hosted several foster children throughout their lives together. The two traveled the United States extensively in their motor home throughout the years that they were retired-spending the majority of their time in the Southwest. After the loss of their son in 1998 to Cystic Fibrosis, the two decided to live full-time with their family in New Jersey. They built an in-law's suite and lived with their daughter Heather, their son in law, Richard Pool and their two granddaughters- Kristin and Machaela Pool. It was here that the two lived out the last years of their lives, watching their granddaughters grow up, taking care of both animals (chickens, horses, dogs, cats & cows) and their family and, having regular Sunday family dinners. When George passed in 2009, Marguerite continued to take care of her family, attend bible study as well as the gym three times a week. Marguerite had a deep and constant love for faith, attending Central Baptist Church in Woodbury, New Jersey for almost sixty years. It is through this unwavering faith, we believe that Marguerite left this physical world and entered eternal love and happiness and is once again re-united with her husband and son.

Please join us for a memorial service honoring her life on Saturday, February 9th with visiting hours starting at 10:00 am and a service at 11:00 am at Central Baptist Church in Woodbury, New Jersey. Luncheon to follow in Fellowship Hall.
