Obituary for Marsha Herquet

Marsha Herndon Herquet of Mt. Ephraim, NJ passed away on January 19, 2023, just shy of her 82nd birthday. She was born in Waynesboro, VA to the late Harry Houston Herndon and Glenna (nee Ross). Marsha had several interesting events during her life. When she was four years old, she was kissed on the forehead by Eleanor Roosevelt at a whistle stop in Waynesboro as FDR's funeral train rolled toward Hyde Park. She was a competitive swimmer; one of a relay team of four who came within a hare’s breath of becoming Olympic contenders. Her first wedding had 700 guests. She later married her second husband, the late James Galdi and together they toured the country on a Honda Gold-Wing. Marsha did a stint as president of a local Honda Gold-wing club, organizing rides for pleasure and charitable causes.

She earned a master's degree in psychology and mathematics and was a teacher for the Woodbury School District. In the early 90s she became the technology supervisor for Woodbury High School. Marsha was one of a team of three whose grant proposal resulted in Woodbury High’s becoming a NASA explorer school, one of only fifty in the nation. She was also instrumental for purchasing and servicing the first computers at Woodbury High School.

She is survived by her husband, George A. Herquet, Jr.; her daughter, Jennifer Philpott; son, Bruce Rogers (Stephanie); and her adopted daughters, Cheryl Ann Galdi and Karen Lees. She is also survived by George's daughter Gabrielle Herquet.
