Matthew Gray, of Mantua, died December 24, 2018 after a thirteen month battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease that robbed him of everything but his sense of humor. Matthew was born in Mantua in 1961. He was a loving son to his mother Theresa Gray (nee Murray), especially in her final years, until her passing in August 2017. He was predeceased by his father, Jack W. Gray.
Matt graduated from Clearview High School in 1979. He could be happy traveling with family, large groups of friends or as alone as his motorcycle could take him. His curiosity led him to places as diverse as casinos across this country and natural wonders from California to the north woods of Maine.
Matt is survived by his siblings: Kathy Emerson (Howard) of Haddon Heights, Joann Thomas of Wenonah, Carol Williams of National Park, John (Lisa) of West Deptford, Mark of Pitman, and Jacqueline Wahner (Barry) of Drexel Hill, Pa., and eleven nieces and nephews.
Matt was well known for helping others through his generosity and his many skills. In most any situation, Matt could keep everyone laughing and focused on what was truly important. He leaves behind, to wonder why, many family friends and caregivers, especially Janet Rudderow and Kathy Ponte (Pontelandolfo).
Family and Friends are invited to visit from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Smith Funeral Home 47 Main Street Mantua, NJ 08051. Memories of Matt will be shared at 2:00 pm.
