Obituary for Michael L. Solmen

Michael L. Solmen age 65, of Smyrna, DE formerly of Mantua Twp., NJ passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 with his family by his side. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was a graduate of Warren High School Class of 1975. Mike served in the US Navy aboard several naval vessels, more notably the USS Dyess. He was a hardworking operations manager for Vulcan Basement Waterproofing for over 40 years. Mike played and managed the Woodbury Marlins Baseball Team where he made lifelong friends. He enjoyed playing golf and bowled for many years with his wife. He also played in many fantasy football and baseball leagues with his friends. He was a very proud father and enjoyed spending his time with his family and dogs. Mike will be most known for his dad jokes and quick witted humor.

Mike is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathleen (nee Wiebalk), two daughters, Megan Solmen & her fiancé Matthew Mertz and Kristine Solmen both of Mantua Twp., and brothers-in-law, Robert Wiebalk & his wife Joanne, and Richard Wiebalk & his wife Karleen. He was predeceased by his parents Melissa Tangney (nee Burns) and Ronald Tangney, and his sister, Kathryn Solmen.

Family & Friends may visit from 3 pm to 6 pm on Tuesday, March 7th, at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ where Military Honors and service will be held at 6 pm. Interment will be private. Please join the Solmen Family for a celebration of Mike’s life at The Village Pub (his favorite) in Sewell, NJ following the service.
