Mildred Caroline Care, age 103, of Woodbury, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Mildred was born in Philadelphia to the late George Hasenpflug and Ella (Linsenmaier). After graduating from Kensington High School for Girls, she worked at Charles Bond and Co. where she handled and translated foreign correspondence. Mildred was a member of Advent and St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Churches, both in Philadelphia. At St. Paul’s she was employed as the executive secretary, played piano for the children’s choir and enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader. She was also a member of the W. H. Saunders and Pitman Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star having served for a time as a Worthy Matron. After moving to New Jersey, Mildred became a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pitman and worked in the offices of Doctors Michael Rogers and Marcus Magnet until her retirement at the age of 94 years. Mildred’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored. She loved entertaining at the piano, playing songs without music and more often than not being accompanied by a chorus of family and friends, young and old.
Wife of the late Matthew Charles Care, she is survived by her children, Beverly C. Saurman (Linton T.) of Mechanicsburg, PA; Allan M. Care, Sr. (Susan B.) of Collegeville, PA; Carol C. Wynn of Woodbury, NJ; Elaine M. Larthey (John) of Woodbury Heights, NJ; Daughter-In-Law, Carolejeanne Care of Watertown, MA; 8 grandchildren, Christie L. Saurman, David M. Saurman (Petronya), Janine A. Block (David), Allan M. Care, Jr. (Nancy), Sarah J. Rauhut (Eben), Matthew J.C. Care (Jamie), Christopher J. Larthey (Allison), Jennifer E. Knorr (Joseph), 17 great grandchildren, nephews, George L. Ashford and Leonard F. Ashford, Jr. and niece, Ellen M. Gallagher. She was predeceased by her son, John C. Care, sister, Eleanor Ashford and brother-in-law Leonard F. Ashford, Sr.
Family and Friends may visit from 10 am to 12 pm on Tuesday, February 4th, at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 Columbia Avenue, Pitman, NJ where Funeral Services will be held at 12 pm. Burial will be private at Skippack Mennonite Church Cemetery in Skippack, PA .
