Obituary for Norma E. Beard

Norma E. Beard, (nee Snyder), age 94, of Woodbury passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021. She was born in Woodbury to the late Charles A. Snyder Sr. and Flora E. (nee Davies). Norma graduated from Woodbury High School Class of 1944 where she excelled in sports and lettered in field hockey, basketball, and tennis. After high school, Norma continued playing basketball and field hockey for various local teams including the West Jersey Field Hockey League. Norma was a member of the West End School PTA and she was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Norma and her husband lived in Dallas, TX for 9 years then retired to Susquehanna, PA for many years before returning to South Jersey. Norma enjoyed her summers in Stone Harbor, NJ at her mother’s house where they welcomed a multitude of family and friends. She was a member of Kemble Memorial United Methodist Church in Woodbury and volunteered to make the vegetable soup for the annual Harvest Bazaar. Norma was also a lifeguard at the YMCA in Woodbury and loved teaching kids and adults to swim. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and made many beautiful afghans and customized Christmas stockings for all of her family. Every year she enjoyed creating her own Christmas cards which she mailed out by the dozens. She was a 4 For 4 Philadelphia Sports Fan and enjoyed watching collegiate athletics, as well. At the age of 77, she learned how to Scuba Dive, but her greatest accomplishment was being a wife, mother, and beloved grandmother and great grandmother.

Wife of the late William F. Beard, she is survived by her children, Kirby W. Beard & his wife Kathryn of Skippack, PA and LeAnn Walsh & her husband Thomas of Thorofare, grandchildren, Adrienne, Lianna, Jonathan, Evan, Drew, Trevor, Jake and Dana, great grandchildren, Aiden, Lorenzo, Breńa, Aldous, Cian, Elias, Eamon, Kaili, Amber, Benjamin and Isabelle, her sister Ann Silverman and daughter-in-law, Karen Beard. Norma was also predeceased by her son Gary L. Beard, brothers Arthur and Paul, and sister Flora, Leafey.

Family and Friends are invited to a graveside service at Eglington Cemetery on February 5th at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Kemble United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
