Obituary for Paul G. Ryan

On Sunday, February 27, 2022, Paul Gerard Ryan, 64, loving “Pop” of three children and proud “Pappy” of five grandchildren, passed away after an arduous battle with cancer.

Paul was born and raised in Deptford, NJ and was a proud “Deptford Boy”. He served his country in the United States Navy for four years before he was honorably discharged in 1981. Together with Sandra Ryan, they raised their three children in Sewell, NJ of Mantua Township, where Paul earned his living working for the United States Postal Service at the Sewell Post Office for 32 years.

Paul, being a true Irishman, was a diehard Notre Dame fan. He had a love for all sports but a passion for baseball and was a devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan. Paul spent many, many years coaching his children’s baseball, basketball, and football teams where he left a deep impact on many young athletes. He loved the beach and was also an avid lover of music, especially the oldies, and never missed an opportunity to sing along. Paul spent lots of his free time with his “second family” at Hollywood Diner, where he was well known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Paul always put his family first and only wanted the best for them. His children and grandchildren made his life complete, he loved them and was incredibly proud.

Paul is predeceased in death by his father, Paul, his mother, Margaret, his three sisters, Ave, Margaret Mary, and Kathleen. He is survived by the loving mother of his children Sandra Ryan, his three children, Steven, Patrick (Jamie), and Colleen (Michael), his five grandchildren, Maverick, Cruise, Ace, Evie, and Gabriel, his sisters Eileen (Barry), Bernadette and several cousins, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He will also be deeply missed by many lifelong friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ 08051, and on Tuesday, March 8th, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the Church of the Incarnation, 240 Main Street, Mantua, NJ 08051, where a Requiem Mass will begin at 11:00 am.
