Obituary for Phyllis Wax

Phyllis Harriet Engle Wax age 97, of West Chester passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021. She was born in National Park, NJ to the late Edward Engle and Gertrude (nee Hughes). Phyllis and her family moved to Upper Darby at the age of 14 where she graduated from Upper Darby High School. She attended nurses training at Pennsylvania Hospital and earned her degree to become an RN in 1984 at Widener University. Phyllis worked for the Chester County Department of Health. She lived in West Chester Borough for the past 40 plus years. Phyllis previously resided in Glen Mills, PA where she raised her children with her husband Nelson.

Phyllis led a life that mattered. She generously and actively fought for peace and social justice, and was always prepared to help those most in need. She loved music, the arts, dancing and meeting new people. She made an impression wherever she went with her bright spirit and extraordinary ability to listen and take interest in the stories and lives of others.

Mother of Philip Wax, Robert Wax (Christine) and Jeanne Wax Grigri (Bernard) Grandmother of Phillip (Carol), Jolie, Annabelle (Austin), Nelson (Terri), Tyler (Alisha), Chloe (Vincent), Casey, Max, Kaela (Albert), and Lucas, Step-grandmother of Adam (Kirsten) and Justin, Great-grandmother of Tristyn, Cassidy, Lena, Aries, River, Robert, Allie, Emmett, Casey, Carson, and William.

A Memorial Ceremony at Red Bank Battlefield looking upon the Whitall Mansion where she spent her childhood. Gathering will be at 3 PM Thursday on May 27th at the Riverview picnic pavilion.
