Obituary for Raymond Joseph Smith Jr.

Raymond Joseph Smith Jr. age 75, of Mickleton, NJ formerly of West Deptford, NJ passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. He was born in Philadelphia to the late Raymond Joseph Smith Sr., and Marie A. (Plunkett). Ray served in the Army Reserves and earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph's University. He worked for Dom's International in Cherry Hill & Fred's Trailer Parts in Beverly, NJ and was a member of Infant Jesus Parish. Ray was an avid Notre Dame Football Fan and loved deep sea fishing. He enjoyed a good bagel, running, and reading about history. Ray was loquacious and jocular and loved words. He was a master storyteller who could tell a joke for any occasion. Ray was kind and generous and always helped where he could. He was very proud of his daughter, granddaughters, nieces and nephews.

Ray is survived by his wife Carole A. (Ortloff), his daughter, Summer L. Smith and her husband Jeffrey M. Fields, grandchildren, Ein D. (Birdy) Smith-Fields, Helen M. Smith-Fields, sister, Deborah Donia and brother, Gerard X. Smith, sister-in-law Constance Smith, brother-in-law John Donia and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward P. Smith and his sister, Marianne G. Smith.

Family and Friends may visit from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, February 19th, at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street Mantua, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, February 20th, at Infant Jesus Parish at St. Margaret's Church Third and Beech Streets Woodbury Heights, NJ 08097, Interment will be private.
