Obituary for Richard H. "Rick" Struss Sr.

Richard H. Struss Sr., age 79, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2023. Beloved husband for 58 years of Sally J. Struss (nee Myers), Rick was predeceased by his parents, Mary Struss (nee Thomas) and Robert Struss Sr. He is survived by his brother, Robert Struss Jr., his sister Mary Crisante (Joe) and his children, Richard Struss Jr., Carolyn Clark (Jeff), Marlene Leady, and Suzanne Farner (Dan). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brittany Hogate (Shawn), Alexandra Glatz (Kyle), Richard Struss III, Kodi Oakes (Laurence), Jaryd Leady, Samuel Struss, Kyleigh Farner and Casandra Farner. Four great grandchildren, Colton Andrews, Victoria Andrews, Emma Struss and Elliott Hogate and several nieces and nephews.



Rick was a Paulsboro high school graduate in 1961, high school varsity athlete, a youth basketball coach, and a lifelong supporter of Paulsboro High School athletics. He was also an avid Penn State football and Duke basketball fan.



Rick enjoyed his time in dart and pool leagues, he also played slow-pitch softball. He was the organizer and leader of the South Jersey Horseshoe League for over 30 years. Rick spent his working years as a pipefitter and in the store house at Mobil/Valero in Paulsboro before retiring to spend time with his family.



He was known for his quick-witted, sarcastic sense of humor, and will be deeply missed by all who loved him.



Family and Friends are invited to visit from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, and Wednesday, June 7, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, New Jersey 08051 where a Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro, NJ 08020.
