Robert Alan Baker, Sr. – Former Boy Scouts of America Executive

Robert A. Baker, Sr. of Mantua, NJ - went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 29th, 2016 on his 80th Birthday, He fought the good fight against Multiple Sclerosis for nearly 20 years. Born April 29th 1936 in Passaic, NJ to Leonard and Florence Baker (nee Bartels). His career with the BSA began as a District Scout Executive for the Passaic – Wallington District in the former Aheka Council BSA, later Passaic Valley Council BSA – now Northern New Jersey Council, BSA. Other assignments for the BSA included Explorer Scout Executive and Gloucester District Scout Executive for the former Southern New Jersey Council BSA - now Garden State Council BSA. He retired in 1996 as the Scout Executive for the Adirondack Council in Plattsburgh, NY. After a 30 year career with the BSA he and his wife Marie returned to Mantua. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Carneys Point, NJ. He was a graduate of Rutgers University at Newark, a US Army veteran and an Eagle Scout.

He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 59 years Marie C. Baker (nee Toner) of Mantua, New Jersey and three children Robert Jr., of Woodbury, Bonnie of Mantua, and Melinda of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In addition, he is also survived by his Brother Jay Harold Baker, of Clifton New Jersey, and Brother-in-Law Frank Toner of Norristown, PA – as well as nieces Janeen Baker of Wayne, NJ, Jana Baker of Pompton Lakes, NJ and Gail Trotter of Riegelsville, Pa. and nephews Daniel Toner of Maple Shade, NJ and Douglas Toner of Norristown, Pa., he is survived by cousins Ronald and Alice Corey of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., and Joan Vroom of Tavares, FL.

He will be remembered, as a caring and loving son, brother, nephew, beloved husband, father, uncle, cousin, colleague, good neighbor, and friend. But above all a faithful servant to his Lord - With a wonderful sense of humor, and who held a strong patriotic belief in America and its Youth. He will be missed by many.

Family and Friends are invited to visit from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, May 5th, at the Smith Funeral Home 47 Main Street Mantua, NJ 08051 and from 9:00 am to 10:30 am Friday May 6th at the First Assembly of God Church 380 Georgetown Road Carneys Point, NJ 08069. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am at the church. A luncheon will follow a half hour after the service. Burial with military honors to follow luncheon at the Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery 240 North Tuckahoe Rd., Williamstown, (Monroe Twp.) NJ 08094
