Obituary for Robert L. Layton

Robert L.  Layton
Robert Lee Layton age 71, of Wenonah passed away suddenly November 14th, 2015 with his family by his side. Robert is survived by his wife of 51 years who was the love of his life, June (nee Hilderbrand), two daughters Andrea (Mark) Rowe, and Robin Layton (George Vernon), grandson Jesse Rowe, two sisters Patty (Rudy) Baric, Sandy Layton, Brother William Layton, niece Maria (Joe) Oliveri, nephews Michael Elk, David Neff, and various Grand Nieces and Nephews. Robert was known by various names to those who loved him, Robert, Bob, Dad, Uncle Bob, Grandpop, and Captain Bob. Bob was a graduate of Deptford High school 1962. He was the owner and President of Checkmate Security Services for over 40 years. Captain of the Charter Boat Mariner out of Fortescue, NJ for over 20 years. In the last few years gained great pleasure in providing transportation to children with special needs with his job at Holcomb Bus Company. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 37 years and was actively involved in all four cornerstones of the Auxiliary, Surface (Boat) Operations, Air operations, Education, and Boating Safety. Robert was a member of the Fortescue Captains Association for 25 years, Fortescue Anglers Club, Gloucester County Amateur Radio Club (KB2-COB) for over 30 years, past president for the South Jersey Aero Club (SOJAC). He is also a life time member of the New Jersey Jaycees as a JCI Senator.
Robert has made a significant impact and contributions to his community through his volunteerism and will be deeply missed by all of those who knew him. Family and Friends are invited to visit from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Thursday, November 19th and Friday November 20th from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Smith Funeral Home 47 Main Street Mantua, NJ 08051. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hurffville, NJ. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to US Coast Guard Mutual Assistance Association 5th North Region in honor of Robert Layton. http://www.cgmahq.org/Contributions/general.html
