Obituary for Russell E Paul

Russell E. Paul, 78, husband of the late Janice Hannold Paul of Mantua, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

Born April 8, 1941, in Woodbury, NJ, he was the son of Russell E. and Roberta Paul.

Russell attended Woodbury High School, Gettysburg College and Rutgers Law School. As an attorney in Woodbury for 40 years, Russell held many high-profile roles, including County Counsel, Assistant County Prosecutor and County Adjustor for Gloucester County, and he also served as a Municipal Prosecutor for Franklin, Deptford, Mantua and Clayton. Russell also supported local schools by serving as a School Board Solicitor for Gateway Regional High School, Clearview Regional High School and Millville Public Schools, as well as Haddon Heights, Wenonah, Westville and Woodbury School Districts. Russell was the Municipal Solicitor for Swedesboro and Solicitor for the Gloucester County Utilities Authority.

Along with his impressive legal career, Russell somehow had time to pursue what he always called his "crazy ideas," which included becoming the co-owner of the successful McCaffrey-Paul Insurance Agency in Westville. Russell also constructed "Radio Road" -- his own radio station broadcasting along the Atlantic City Expressway.

(He was also the author of two as-yet unproduced musicals...)

It's worth noting that Russell knew something about any subject imaginable, collecting facts and information about history, business and oddities through his voracious reading (and he never forgot anything, either). For even more enlightenment, Russell spent the last six years traveling the world with companion Sandra Crandall for a total of 31 adventures, visiting 14 countries and 111 cities.

Russell was a good man, and his family and friends loved him. We imagine he's currently checking in to Heaven’s nicest Marriott.

Russell is survived by son Alan and his wife Stephanie of Orlando, FL and daughter Laurie Cimino and her husband Mark of Wenonah, NJ; four grandchildren, Mallory and Wyatt of Orlando, Paul and Catherine of Wenonah. He is also survived by his sister Joy of Elizabethtown, NC and four nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be announced for Russell when family and friends will be able to join together again. In the meantime, donations may be made in Russell's name to the American Cancer Society 1851 Old Cuthbert Rd
Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 and the American Diabetes Association PO BOX 11454 Alexandria, VA 22312.
