How ironic is it that Bicycle Betty died from complications from a car accident?
Small towns with Big characters is what Shirley was a link to the community that we all could grasp a hold of.
God welcomed her to the Kingdom with a special bicycle.
God Bless.

My Prayers o the family. What a wonderful person she was. She would regularly peddle to my house many years ago just to say hello to my children. May she rest in peace...

As reflect on my time living on Mantua one of the fondest memories was seeing "Bicycle Betty" riding along with her brother. They both made a positive impact in peoples lives without trying. They showed young and old how a simple gesture of a wave can brighten someones day. She always was smiling and waving at people with such compassion and respect. Mantua Twp lost another true icon and role model. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her memory will live on for generations.

Shirley, without even realizing put smiles on faces from the streets of Barnsboro to Mantua for a lifetime! Spreading happiness to everyone to whom she waved and most waved back! To a child who saw her while I was passing by Herbs many times a day, she made being kind real. Seeing her also evoked conversations with my parents .. asking why were her and her brother there? And why do they wave to everyone? Seeing Betty as I called her made me realize happiness can be spread by a simple wave and a smile by a stranger. There was no getting into trouble or being up to something by hanging out there was just leading a simple happy life and enjoying nature and enjoying others . Please hold that kindness in your heart... I know I will! Keep on riding Betty and I’ll be waving back! Alexia Powell Pearo
