Obituary for Thelma Lavera Good (Shute)

Thelma Lavera Good “Jo” age 98, of “Sewell” Mantua Twp., NJ passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024.  Born in Barnsboro to the late Howard Shute Sr. and Minnie (nee Hoffman), she was a bookkeeper for Mantua National Bank and the former clerk for Mantua. Twp.  Jo was an active member of the Eastern Star, assisted with various events for the Mantua Lions Club, and delivered Meals on Wheels to senior citizens throughout Mantua Twp. with her late husband after their retirements.  They were square dancers for many years and snowbirds in Jensen Beach, FL.  Jo was an avid card and game player.  Her son can not recall a game of Rummy that he ever won against her. She loved making ceramics and enjoyed camping up and down the east coast with her family for many years.

 Wife of the late William J. Good, she is survived by her children, Terry Good (Sandy), Bonnie Diaz (Pete), and Ken Good (Rebecca); grandchildren, Ben Diaz (Kelly), Amanda Good, and Alexander Good (Marisa); two great grandchildren, Abigail & Charlotte; and two sisters in law, Florence "Floss" Shute & Margaret "Peg" Shute.  Jo was predeceased by her brothers, Howard "Buck" Shute Jr. and Louis Shute. 

Family & Friends may visit from 10 am to 11 am on Thursday, March 7th, at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ where a funeral service will begin at 11 am.  Interment will follow in Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Monroe Township, NJ.
