Obituary for Warren Emery Hudson

Warren E. “Rocky” Hudson delivered his last 1st class letter…

Age 85 of Deptford Twp (Pine Acres Section), passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side on Friday, March 11th, 2022.

Born in Altoona, PA and the only child of the late Chester Hudson and Minda (nee Marks). He graduated from Saul Biddle Agricultural School (South Philadelphia HS for Boys) Class of January 1955. Enlisted in the US Navy in 1955 and was released with Honorable Discharge with rank E-5. Warren served for 11 years and Received Good Conduct Medal Award.

Warren was Retired from the USPS Letter Carriers for 33 years in Pitman, NJ. The families on his routes became an extended family to him. He would have lunch daily at the homes where he delivered mail too and also check in on them. Warren was an Avid Beekeeper, a former 4-H Leader of Rabbits, Sheep, Honeybees and Seeing Eye Puppies and was also a leader for the Indian Guides and Indian Princesses when his children where young. Most of all, he was a loving husband, proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was proud and honored of what his children and grandchildren have accomplished.

Warren had a love to cook and bake and his passion of Beekeeping with children in schools where he used to give school talks and craft shows. He cherished making lasting memories (educational and fun) with his family on family vacations and trips when the children were little. Traveling to Lancaster, PA for their meats, baked goods and don’t forget the Strasburg Railroad – were always great trips that he had done with his children, grands and great grands. And before they were called concerts – Warren and Lorraine would take to trips to Lancaster to Country Music Shows and sometimes the children got to come too!! His garden was one of his passions, steam trains, reading, building and fixing things “Jack of all Trades and Master of None” – BUT he wouldn’t touch anything with gas! When the children were young – he would make an ice skating rink in the back yard – have bonfires (before they were cool), made sled trails in the back yard and through the woods for kids and the neighbor kids, and at Halloween time – had hayrides for everyone on his tractor and wagon. He always wanted his kids to have a good time!

He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine (nee Gilman) of 57 years (would have been 58 years on April 18th, 2022). His children – Edward Hudson, Loren (Michael) Laughlin and Randy (Jeanine) Hudson. Grandchildren – Jacqueline, Kathryn (Michael), Logan, Camryn, Brandon & Jeremy. Great Grandchildren – Connor, Colton, Sophia, Natalia, Dominic & Thomas. Sisters-in-Laws – Caroline Aikman & Virginia Gilman. Predeceased by his Father and Mother In-Law – Charles & Regina (nee Johnson) Gilman. Predeceased by his In-Laws – Regina (nee Gilman) & Joseph Herling, Charles Gilman & Frederick Gilman. Survived by many nieces and nephews.

Warren had requested to be cremated and have a Graveside Service with Military Honors at the Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery, 240 N.
