William Harry Madara (Bill) of Richwood, NJ, it is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Bill on August 6, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eleanor (nee Scott), his children, Donna Kavlunas (Michael), Debbie Huber (Rev. Kyle Huber), William Madara, Jr. (Cindy nee Liddle), and Dawn Valente. He also survived by 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Bill is predeceased by his siblings, Joanne Lewis, Harry Madara and Louise Madara.
The son of Harry K. and Florence Madara, Bill was born and raised in Richwood, NJ. He attended Glassboro High School where he excelled in football and track. At the age of 16, he took over his family farm when his father suddenly passed away. Bill was the owner and operator of Garden State Fruit Farm. Along with farming, he and his wife Eleanor owned The Candy Box for nearly 40 years. Bill was a dedicated, life-long member of the Richwood United Methodist Church where he was a member of the James L. Eastlack Men's Bible Class and served the church he loved faithfully throughout the years. Bill was also an active member of the French Lodge #89 IOOF, a former president of the Richwood Academy Association and an avid bowler. He was an avid hunter, member of the NRA and enjoyed many hunting trips to Montana with his dear friends.
Bill loved his community and country, but it was his family that gave him the most joy. He loved his role as husband and took great pride in the life he built with his wife, Eleanor. He relished in his roles as Dad, PopPop and Great-Pop. He showed them that with determination and duct tape, almost anything can be fixed. He always made sure everyone had flashlights and batteries and taught them all how to weather a storm. He showed his love and devotion for his family in everything he did. Bill was known for his dry sense of humor and quirky jokes. People were often caught off-guard by his quick wit. Bill had a gift for making everyone smile and his smile will be greatly missed.
