Obituary for Earl S. McEwen

Earl S.  McEwen
Earl S. McEwen, 96 years old, of Paulsboro joined the love of his life, Alice, on Thursday, November 21, 2019, on the 68th anniversary of their wedding.

Earl was born in McDonald, PA. He grew up and spent most of is life in Colonial Manor, NJ. He graduated from Paulsboro High School. Shortly after graduation, Earl joined the Marine Corp on January 9, 1942. He became part of the 1st Marine Division, 5th Marines, C Company and returned to the states after battle in Guadalcanal. He met the love of his life and he would ride his bicycle from Colonial Manor to Wenonah to see her and within six months of meeting they were married. In the years to follow they grew their family of two to a family of five.

While working at Texaco in Westville, Earl attended classes at Glassboro State obtaining his bachelor’s degree in education. He went on to work at Pennsauken Vocational School for over twenty years. Earl was the faculty advisor for VICA, DECA and was the track coach.

He was a lifelong member of Colonial Manor United Methodist Church, The Gideon International and Faith Bible Church. He was also an avid golfer; a member of a bowling team and he spent many years as an umpire for the men’s baseball league.

He is survived by his children Leslie (Jeff) Miklos, Earl McEwen, Jr. and Amy (Jim) Buttaro; his grandchildren, Taylor and Joshua Buttaro; brother, Clair E. McEwen; and many nieces and nephews. Earl is joining his wife, Alice; his parents, Bill and Marie; and his siblings, Bill and Jean.

Family and Friends are invited to visit from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm for a memorial gathering on Friday, December 6th at Colonial Manor United Methodist Church 56 Elberne Ave., Woodbury, NJ 08096. Prior to Visitation at the church a 3 pm Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery, 240 N. Tuckahoe Road, Williamstown, New Jersey 08094.
