Obituary for Heather N. Hirst (Clisham)

Heather N. Hirst (Clisham)
Heather N. Hirst age 42, of Glassboro passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015. A graduate of Paul VI High School Class of 1990, she married her husband Jim in the spring of 1991. Heather worked as a Project Manager for NER Data Products in Glassboro.
Heather is survived by her husband, James F. Hirst, her son, Alexander H. Hirst, father & mother in-law, James and Norene Hirst. Grandmother, Margaret Clisham. Uncle and Aunt Benny and Mary Anthony. Sisters-in-law Denise (Dale) Wolfe and Amie (Scott) Lobdell, and loving nieces and nephews.
Heather was a proud Navy mom. Her son Alex had recently enlisted in the United States Navy, and spent most of the summer at boot camp in Chicago. Heather enthusiastically and eagerly followed his journey online, connecting with other new Navy moms, and making friends as she did wherever she went, in person or online. Alex's graduation from boot camp was certainly one of the proudest moments of her life.
Travel was one of Heather's greatest joys in life. From family vacations to Disney World, to her frequent business trips to Las Vegas, Heather was always looking for a new adventure. She enjoyed camping and rafting in the Poconos. She often traveled to New York City for an overnight visit and a Broadway show. One recent trip to New York included an appearance as a guest on the Dr. Oz show and a meeting with one of her heroes, Robin Roberts. She even traveled to California for a memorable visit to the Ellen Show and a tour of the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway.
Without a doubt, the highlight of all her travels was her trip to Hawaii with her husband, Jim. Here, they celebrated 20 years of marriage with the renewal of their wedding vows on Waikiki Beach. They visited Oahu, Kauai, and the big Island of Hawaii. Together they snorkeled, swam with sharks and explored the beautiful islands. It truly was the trip of a lifetime to celebrate a shared life of love.
Florida was probably her most frequent destination, as she loved spending time with her grandmother, Mimi, in Sarasota. They spent many relaxing hours at her favorite spot, Siesta Key Beach. Spring break was a favorite time to visit Sarasota, when she could root for the Phillies during their spring training practices and games.
Heather was a lifelong Phillies fan. A season ticket-holder, you would often find her at the home games, cheering on her beloved Phils. Heather loved music; Cold Play, U2 and Sting were among her favorites. Attending concerts with friends and family was another favorite past time. She was also an avid gardener. In the summertime, her yard was alive with color, butterflies and hummingbirds. Longwood Gardens and the Philadelphia Flower Show were frequent destinations.
Heather spent much of her time giving back to the community. She was a devoted volunteer for the Glassboro Schools, and was the heart and soul of the Glassboro High School AfterProm during the years she headed the committee. She coached for Glassboro Little League softball, was co-chair of the Glassboro Little League Snack Bar, and the Executive Director of the Jim Hirst Book Club. She enjoyed participating in Color Runs, For Pete’s Sake walks, the Relay for Life, and volunteering at the Kennedy Cancer Center, as well as many, many other events.
In addition to her family, Heather leaves behind many beloved friends. Her impact on each was deep and lasting. Her legacy of optimism, humor and adventure will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
Family & friends may visit from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, September 10th, 2015 at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua. A memorial service will be held at 8 PM. As an expression of sympathy, contributions can be made to the Kennedy Cancer Center, 900 Medical Center Drive, Ste 209, Sewell, NJ 08201.
