James E. Gallagher age 85, of Gibbstown passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014. Born in Mantua Heights, he served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a past commander of Gibbstown VFW Post #5579, and also belonged to the Woodbury American Legion Post #133.
Beloved husband of the late Esther (Long), he was a stepfather to Sandy, Andy, & Edward Long, grandfather to Michael Long. Jim is survived by his sisters, Catherine Carpenter, Mary Ramer, Mildred Gambogi, & Edna Nolta, brothers, Bernard, Joseph, William, Raymond, Charles, & Thomas, brother & sister-laws, and many nieces & nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Lena & John Gallagher, brothers, John, George, Leonard, & Lindley, and sisters, Emma Smogey & Lillian Coles. Family & friends are invited to visit from 9 to 11 AM Thursday, October 23rd, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME 47 Main Street Mantua, NJ. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM, burial with military honors to follow at Eglington Cemetery. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.smithfhmantua.com
