JOSEPH E. WESTERVELT
October 8, 1930 – June 28, 2018
Joseph Edward Westervelt, age 87, of Washington Township, New Jersey, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 with family by his side.

Joseph was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of Edward and Mary (Hughes) Westervelt. He was the fifth of eight siblings and is survived by his sister Mary Ford of Philadelphia, PA. Joseph was predeceased by his wife Geraldine (Gerri) in 2014.

He is also survived by his children, Edward (Sherri) Westervelt of Palm City, FL, Daniel (Teddy) Westervelt of Mantua, NJ, Stacey Maculewicz of Turnersville, NJ, and Joseph (Gail) Westervelt of Mickleton, NJ, and ten grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Joseph graduated from Roman Catholic High School, in Philadelphia, PA class of 1948 and worked for Mack Transportation until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1952. During his service he received the Korean Service Medal W/2 Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal until honorably discharged in 1954. He worked for Sears while he and his wife raised their family in Deptford, NJ and later Woodbury Heights, NJ until he retired and moved to Port St. Lucie, FL. While in Florida, he worked for Publix Super Markets until retiring a second time in 2014 and then moved back to New Jersey.

Joseph will be remembered for his sense of humor and quick wit. Affectionately nicknamed “Buttons” because he was told he had a big nose, but he would say he just had a small face. He will be greatly missed.

Interment will take place at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery 240 North Tuckahoe Road, Williamstown, NJ on August 4, 2018 at 10:30 am followed by a celebration of Joseph and Gerri’s life at Scotland Run Golf Club, 2626 Fries Mill Road, Williamstown, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name
to Samaritan Hospice.
