Obituary

Kenneth D. Newman age 82, of West Deptford passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2019. Born in Osceola, NE to the late Joseph Newman and Rose (Hubbert), he graduated from Stromsburg H.S. where he held a longtime basketball record for points scored. Ken served in the US Navy from 1957-1963 where he was a sailor on the USS Galveston and USS Little Rock. He retired from Unisys, and in his spare time he was active with the Gloucester County Amateur Radio Club where he was past president and treasurer and the Frankford Radio Club. Ken loved Philadelphia sports teams and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He spent many wonderful vacations camping and hiking with his family in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Ken is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha Newman (Keenan), his daughter, Michelle Newman and her husband, Keith Maclin of Baltimore, MD, and his grandson, Gregory Maclin.

Family and Friends may visit from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, October 17th, and 10 am to 11 am on Friday, October 18th at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua where a funeral service will be held at 11 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Eglington Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, contributions can be made to Heartland Hospice, 1385 Chews Landing Road, Laurel Springs, NJ 08021-2760. My condolences on the passing of Ken. I knew Ken as a fellow amateur radio operator in the GCARC.
I felt that Ken and I were similar in that we were both quiet and detail oriented.
