Obituary for Mary E. "Betty" Rose (Holmstrom)

Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Rose, long-time resident of Wenonah, NJ, joined her Lord on July 23, 2014. Betty is survived by husband of 54 years Oliver (Bud) Rose, daughter Beth Rose-Kearns (Roger), son Doug Rose (Jessica), granddaughter Olivia Kearns, brothers William (Bill) Holmstrom and Garry Holmstrom (Cathy), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty loved much and served all generously. As a long-time member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, she considered everyone there her extended family, and served the church as a choir member, a Deacon, an Elder, and was integral in preserving church history and securing the church as a national historic landmark. Betty was a strong supporter of the arts and a water color painter herself, who shared her love of nature by exhibiting and selling her flora and fauna paintings as part of the Gloucester County Art League and a shop in Mullica Hill that she co-owned with her cousin, Connie. Betty was a member of the Wenonah Historical Society and could be found often at Wenonah Elementary School, designing displays for children to grow their knowledge of history in conjunction with the Gloucester County Historical Society. She was a past president of the Woodbury Junior Women’s Club and used her talents to create award-winning scrapbooks. A lover of all music, she always had her favorite CDs playing everything from gospel to Mark Knopfler and her favorites, Ray Charles and Louis Armstrong, and attended every vocal and theatre performance of her granddaughter, Olivia. Betty was a well-known baker and enjoyed Christmas as much as any child. But above all, Betty loved her family: all the Roses, Kearns and Holmstroms locally, throughout the country and in Sweden. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2 at 10:00AM with Family Visitation at 9:00AM at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Wenonah, NJ; lunch will be served after the service. Private interment will be held separately for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Memorial Presbyterian Church “Save Our Stained Glass Windows (SOS)” Fund at 202 E. Mantua Avenue Wenonah, NJ 08090.
